2.8 earthquake recorded in Pai

After a relatively quiet few weeks in the north, the various fault lines have decided to shake again with an earthquake recorded in Pai, Mae Hong Son early this morning, Oct. 18.

The earthquake, a 2.8 on the Richter scale was recorded at 4:16 a.m. at 19.354 N 98.507 E – to the east of the Pai township.

While the north has been fairly quiet seismically recently, a 3.9 earthquake was recorded in Loei Province on Wednesday, Oct. 16 and was felt by those nearby.

According to ThaiPBS, the Loei earthquake is believed to be have been caused by the movement of a minor fault line, part of the Phetchabun fault, or could have been from a new fault line linked with a fault line in Laos.
