3.8 earthquake rattles Nan near Laos border

A small earthquake/ tremor shook Mae Charim District in Nan Province this morning, Sept. 17.

The 3.8 quake struck at Nam Phang, the southern end of Doi Phu Kha National Park at 18.69, 101.17 at a depth of 10 meters.

There are no reports of injuries or property damage given the location itself is very remote near the Laos border with the closest town, Ban Nam Tuang, about 50 kilometers to the north.

Earthquakes in the area are fairly rare but not unknown, with most earthquakes in the north ocurring to the north and northwest in Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Mae Hong Son.
