3.9 earthquake rattles Tha Song Yang District, Tak

A minor earthquake has struck a remote area of Tak Province this morning, Oct. 24.

The 3.9 on the Richter scale earthquake struck at 11:46 a.m. at 17.51N, 98.08E, a location within the Mae Moei National Park in Tha Song Yang District at a depth of one kilometer.

Given its remote location near the Myanmar border, there were no reports of damage or injuries.

It’s the first earthquake of note in upper Thailand since a number of small earthquakes struck San Sai in late September and the largest earthquake in the north since a 3.8 earthquake struck Nan Sept. 17.
