300kg of ice seized following vehicle chase in Mae Sai

Royal Thai Army soldiers and border police have seized 300 kilograms of ice following a vehicle chase in Mae Sai last night, Jan. 9.

A pickup truck was spotted at around 10 p.m. approaching a checkpoint in Ban Pa Yang Chum, Moo 6 Tambon Mae Sai, about two kilometers from the Myanmar before it quickly did a u-turn and attempted to flee.

A chase then took place with the pickup truck eventually crashing onto its side.

Soldiers and police found 300 kilograms of ice in the back of the truck in 12 sacks. Note that most reports suggest it was ice (crystal methamphetamine) as opposed to processed yaba tablets, hence the weight of the drug haul was reported not a number of tablets.

The value of the drugs is believed to be around 30 million baht.

The driver of the vehicle, Mr. Sam Tai Yai (transliterated from Thai), a Myanmar national from Ban Hai, Tachilek was arrested at the scene and was made to pose for pointing pictures (see below).
