41,000 liters of diesel spilled in fatal Nan tanker accident

A man has died and 41,000 liters of diesel spilled following a tanker accident in Nan Province.

The accident occurred just after noon yesterday (Aug. 28) on the Nan-Chalermprakiat Road (Highway 101) in Moo 2 Huai Kon, Chaloem Phra Kiat District near the Laos border.

The driver, Mr. Thongphanchang Ngernwiset, 52, from Bang Lamung, Chonburi was transporting the diesel to Laos when the accident occurred. It’s not clear what caused the accident with police saying that Mr. Ngernwiset was unfamiliar with the road and that may have been a contributing factor.

Fortunately, there was no fire or explosion following the accident but the diesel itself is said to have flown into a local creek. It’s not clear from reports whether attempts are underway to clean the spill.
