51 arrested in relation to underage drinking at San Sai entertainment venue

Army officers, District 5 police, Mae Jo Police and municipal officers have arrested 51 people in relation to underage drinking following a raid on an entertainment venue in San Sai.

The raid occurred last night (Aug. 15) in Moo 10 Pa Pai sub-district, around 300 meters from Mae Jo University, in an entertainment complex that consisted of a number of bars and eating establishments surrounded by an open seating area which are common throughout Chiang Mai.

45 people under the age of 20, the legal drinking age in Thailand, were arrested for underage drinking while a further four people under the age of 20 were arrested for selling alcohol to underage drinkers.

The owners of bars at the entertainment venue, named as Mr. Naruemeth Praduphat and Miss Charnwadee Muang Samla, were also both arrested with police seeking an order to have the venue closed down for a period of five years as a penalty.
