7.74M yaba tablets, 500kg of ice captured at Phayao checkpoint

It’s been a busy weekend for drugs busts with Special Forces soldiers from the 31st Cavalry Division, Royal Thai Army capturing one of the biggest drug hauls in recent memory at a checkpoint in Phayao.

A 10-wheel truck was stopped at a checkpoint at 6 p.m. in Moo 10 Phu Sang, Amphoe Phu Sang where they found a whopping 7,740,000 yaba tablets and 500 kilograms of crystal meth, also known as ice, in the back of the vehicle.

The driver, named as Mr. Suran Boonpayot, 44, Moo 6 Hua Dong, Nakhonsawan was arrested at the scene and did not resist arrest.

According to reports the drugs were being shipped from Chiang Rai to Ayutthaya, a common shipment route with the drugs then split up in the ancient Siamese capital for distribution to other points of the country.
