American man arrested in Mae Rim drug raid

An American national has been arrested as part of drug raids on two properties in Mae Rim yesterday, Feb. 28.

The raids, on two houses in Rim Tai, were undertaken as part of a joint operation between Thai Food and Drug Administration, Chiang Mai Police Provincial District 5 police, Mae Taeng Police, the Royal Thai Army and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency.

Mr. Joshua Paul Pate, 44, stands accused of manufacturing and selling cannabis-based products as well as unregistered steroids.

The raids uncovered over 100,000 pills that were being sold as Dianabal DS, a steroid used by body builders, along with an unspecified quantity of Diazepam.

Police also seized marijuana plants, chemicals used in the production of drugs and other drug-related items.

Mr. Pate has been charged with the sale of illegal psychotropic substances, selling drugs that are not registered, producing drugs type 5 (marijuana) without permission and produce psychotropic substances of type 4 (Diazapam) without permission.

For the added bonus, he was also charged with overstaying his visa.
