American students rescued after going missing in Doi Suthep National Park

11 American exchange students have been rescued after going missing in Doi Suthep National Park yesterday (Aug. 29)

The students, ten girls and one male student studying at Chiang Mai University, had headed off trekking at 2 p.m. from Huay Tung Tao reservoir in Don Kaeo, Mae Rim but a truck they’d used to travel to the starting point was found abandoned by park workers at 7 p.m.

A search party involving park workers and emergency services was established with the girls and the token boy found subsequently at 11 p.m.

According to Thai language reports the 11 had somehow managed to become stuck on a cliff near a waterfall around 4 kilometers from their starting point.

The last of the students were evacuated from the park just after midnight.

Update: The Nation claims that the students called for help, however, Thai language reports refer specifically to park workers finding an abandoned vehicle.
