Army closes down “illegal casino” in Lamphun that consisted of one machine

Royal Thai Army officers have closed down an “illegal casino” being operated from a shop in Lamphun yesterday, Nov. 20.

The “casino” which consisted of a single machine that Thai media describes as a slot machine was being used by visitors to a mom and pop grocery store in Moo 16 Mueang Chi, Mueang Lamphun District.

The machine – which has a Pixar Cars movie theme, cost 5 baht per go with people winning by matching fruit symbols. The house cut on the machine was set to 20 percent.

The owner of the store, Miss Patcharak Khamung, 34 confessed that she did own the machine.

She had been arrested under a law that makes it illegal to provide “gambling stealth games, arcade games or power slot machines without permission” as well as breaching “the order of the National Peace Corps No. 24/2557 prohibiting illegal gambling.”
