Bangkok Airways to launch new flights from Chiang Mai to Luang Prabang, Krabi

Bangkok Airways is expanding its services from Chiang Mai, announcing that it will soon start flights to both Luang Prabang and Krabi.

The Luang Prabang flights, first mooted in January, go on sale today and will offer three flights a week starting April 2.

Using a 70 seat ATR 72-600 aircraft, the flights will run Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, leaving Chiang Mai Airport at 4:30 p.m., landing in Luang Prabang at 5:45 p.m. The return flights leave Luang Prabang at 6:30 p.m and lands in Chiang Mai at 7:45 p.m.

The Krabi service will start March 31 initially with three flights a day until expanding to daily flights from April 30. The A319 flights will leave Chiang Mai at 12.00 p.m. and land in Krabi at 13.55 p.m.

Bizarrely, Bangkok Airlines says the Chiang Mai – Krabi service will only be one way, meaning that a return flight would require a stopover and change of plane in Bangkok.
