Chiang Mai establishes clean air safe zones for smog relief

The Governor of Chiang Mai, Mr. Supachai Iamsuwan has ordered every District in the province to establish clean air safe zones to provide residents a place to find relief from smog.

Two pilot safe zones have been established in Mae Chaem and Mueang with the latter being established on the ground floor of the Chiang Mai International Convention and Exhibition Center.

The safe zone at the Convention Center includes air conditioning with built-in air purification, sofas, tables and chairs along with complimentary snacks, tea, coffee and water.

The Convention Center safe zone will open from 11 a.m. daily and provide space for up to 1,000 people.

The announcement comes as the smog situation continues to improve in Chiang Mai Province be it the levels in some areas are still unhealthy.

As of midday today, the main Chiang Mai AQICN monitoring station was recording a PM 2.5 level of 153 but levels in some areas, including San Sai and San Pa Tong, had dropped under 100 – a moderate level of pollution.
