Chiang Mai student injured after falling from Bangkok mall esaclator

A 12-year-old student from Chiang Mai was seriously injured when he fell from an escalator in a Bangkok shopping mall yesterday, Feb. 20.

The accident happened at the Central World complex in Pathum Wan District in Central Bangkok at around 2:40 p.m.

The unnamed student was visiting Bangkok with 22 other students and three teachers for a mathematics competition when the accident occurred.

According to The Bangkok Post, the student dropped his mobile phone while going down an escalator and has fallen as he attempted to grab the phone. However, MGROnline reports that the student, along with another student as “playing” on the escalator by sitting and lying on the handrail when the student fell.

Video of the accident (see below) would indicate that the MGROnline report is likely the correct one.

The student was taken to hospital where he was found to have a back injury along with a fractured left forearm and pelvis.
