Chiang Rai police have arrested seven people who were transporting 300 kilograms of yaba (Thai methamphetamine) between Chiang Khong and Amphoe Thoeng.
The men and drugs were being transported in two vehicles, a 10-wheel truck and a Toyota Vios and were caught by police in Moo 10 Tambol Hom, Khun Tan District this morning (July 23) at 3 a.m.
The seven arrested were all Thai nationals. Police named those arrested as Mr. Sunthorn Dada, 46 from Phetchabun, Mr. Yaso Sae Soo, 32 from Wiang Kaen, Chiang Rai, Mr. Dee Saeng, 30 from Phayao, Phisit Pattanirun, 25 and also from Phayao and two others from both Nan and Phayao.
Police allege that the men were transporting the drugs from the Thai-Lao border south and were using the road to avoid checkpoints on Phaholyothin Road (Highway 1), the main route between Chiang Rai and the west of the country.
