Chiang Rai police find 12 million yaba tablets in abandoned vehicle

In a surprising find, police in Wiang Chai district, Chiang Rai have discovered a vehicle packed with 11,996,000 yaba pills and weighing 1,425kg abandoned in the middle of the road.

The police were tipped off by locals as to the location of the Mazda pickup truck on Chiang Rai-Wiang Chai Road as it had been left there for half a day as was not a vehicle known to locals.

The area itself is located near the Myanmar border in the Golden Triangle, and area previously known best for its Opium cultivation but has in more recent years become a popular area for the importation of yaba – literally “crazy medicine” in Thai, a combination on amphetamine and caffeine.
