Employee arrested for faking hold-up of Haiya hotel

The story yesterday that three men with knives had robbed a hotel in Haiya turned out to false with an employee eventually confessing to have made the story up.

The original story alleged that the men had held up the Airport Resident Hotel on Mahidol Road at 5:45 a.m., in the process cutting one employee with a knife before fleeing the scene on a blue Honda Wave motorcycle.

Police studied CCTV footage from around the hotel and found absolutely no one meeting the description at the time of the alleged hold up.

After interrogation an employee, Mr. Yotakorn Yisuthai, 30 eventually confessed to making the story up and cutting himself to add to the charade.

35,000 baht in stolen cash was subsequently located in Mr. Yisuthai’s employee locker on the second floor of the hotel.

Mr. Yisuthai, who had only been working at the hotel for a month, claimed that he stole the money to pay for gambling debts.

He has charged with stealing from an employer at night and has been remanded in custody.
