11 people, including tourists, have been injured after a rod daeng crashed head on into a sedan on the road to Doi Suthep this afternoon, Jan. 18.
The accident happened on Sriwichai Alley (Highway 1004) at around midday.
According to reports, the rod daeng was illegally attempting to overtake a bus going up the mountain on the wrong side of the road, across double yellow lines, on a blind bend when it slammed into the Toyota Vios heading in the opposite direction.
The majority of those injured were Thai tourists visiting from the south of Thailand. Two Chinese nationals in the rod daeng were also injured.
All 11 were taken to Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital for treatment. None were described as being seriously injured.
Police are said to be investigating the accident including taking witness statements before filing charges against the rod daeng driver.
