17-year-old dead in collision between ‘big bike’ and sedan in San Kamphaeng

Updated – video (added below) shows the kid has crossed into the path of oncoming traffic.

A 17-year-old on a so-called “big bike” has died after colliding with a sedan in San Kamphaeng this morning, Nov. 26.

The accident occurred on Chiang Mai – Mae On Road (Highway 1006) in tambon San Kamphaeng, San Kamphaeng District at around 7:40 a.m.

The deceased, Mr. Thanakrit Lawao from Ton Pao, San Kamphaeng and a Grade 5 student at San Kamphaeng School was rushed to San Kamphaeng Hospital where he died shortly thereafter.

The woman in the sedan was taken to Lanna Hospital and is described as being seriously injured.

The cause of the accident is believed to be careless driving but who was at fault is currently unknown with police interviewing witnesses.

Photos from the scene would indicate that the sedan was pulling out when it was hit on the front right-hand side. That said, the force of the impact would also indicate that the motorcycle was traveling at an extremely high speed as well.

Update 5:15 p.m. – video since released shows that the kid crossed into the path of the oncoming sedan. Video below. Thairath reports that witnesses have confirmed that the 17-year-old was also at fault.
