A 19-year-old man was arrested for starting a fire in Doi Tao this morning, Jan. 22 in breach of the province-wide fire ban.
The fire in question involved a stack of leaves in a longan grove off Hot – Mae Tu Road (Highway 1103) in Baan Wang Luang, Moo 4 Thu Dua.
Police officers were in the area when they spotted smoke coming from nearby the highway and went to investigate when they found Mr. Singha Inmuen burning leaves.
Mr. Inumen confessed to starting the fire but claimed he was unaware of the fire ban.
As opposed to being charged with simply breaching the fire ban, he was instead charged with “burning or committing any actions within 500 meters from the bus route which causes smoke or anything else that may make it unsafe for traffic.”
It’s not clear if he has been detained in custody but reports note that police are proceeding to court.
The arrest comes after a man was jailed for one month and fined 3,000 baht for starting a fire Jan. 12 in San Phi Suea, Mueang Chiang Mai.
