Another day of seismic activity in the north with an earthquake surprisingly detected in Lamphun – not exactly known for earthquake activity this morning, Aug. 22.
The 2.1 on the Richter scale earthquake was recorded at 9:44 a.m. at 18.433 N 99.144 E – Tha Sop Sao in Mae Tha District near the Ang Kep Mae Sao Reservoir.
The earthquake follows on from two earthquakes recorded in Mae Suai, Chiang Rai Aug. 20 and 21.
While not as active as the better known Phayao fault line, the Mae Tha fault line runs from Mae Tha where this earthquake was recorded through to the north of Chiang Mai near the Mae Hong Son border and is suspected to be behind a number of small earthquakes in Mae Ai and Pai last month.
