2.5 million yaba tablets were seized following a car chase through Mae Ai and Fang early this morning, Sept. 17 in Fang.
Police in Mae Ai were on the lookout for drug runners when they spotted a pickup truck with sacks in the rear at around 12:30 a.m. in Ban Doi Laem, Moo 13 Tambon Mae Ai in Mae Ai District.
The pickup truck run through an “ambush” by four rangers attempting to stop the vehicle. A chase followed through Ban Doi Laem past the Mae Ai Witthayakhom School with the pickup truck heading towards Fang.
More police and Royal Thai Army soldiers were called to assist with the pickup truck finally being brought to a halt in Ban Pa Bong, Moo 2 Wiang, Fang District at around 1 a.m. where they found 25 sacks of yaba pills labeled 999 with the total number of pills coming to 2.5 million.
In a surprising twist, police and soldiers found two hill tribe women in the vehicle – Mrs. Naticha Tae, 40 and Miss Marisa Neepi, 33 both from Moo 4 Mae Tha, Chai Prakan.
The two women said they had been paid 900,000 baht to transport the drugs. Both were detained in custody pending a court hearing.
