200,000 baht stolen in armed holdup of Chiang Rai bank branch

200,000 baht was stolen when an armed person held up a bank branch in Chiang Rai yesterday, Aug. 15.

The holdup took place the Krung Thai Bank Pho Khun Intersection Branch on Phahonyothin Road (Highway 1) in Mueang Chiang Rai at around 5 p.m.

According to reports the person, believed to be aged around 30, walked into the branch with a sharp knife and demanded money from an employee sitting at counter no. 2 in the branch.

The perpetrator, who was wearing black or blue long sleeve clothes, long pants and sneakers then jumped across the counter and grabbed the money before fleeing.

It’s not know if the armed robber was a man or female “tom,” a term used in Thailand to denote a lesbian is who adopts masculine behavior and appearance.

Police are naturally investigating including studying CCTV footage in an attempt to identify the robber. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
