A 32-year-old Chinese woman was found dead in mysterious circumstances in Mae Rim this morning, Jan. 29.
The woman was found by staff in a room at a resort in Ban Pang Pa Kha, Tambon Mae Ram at around 11 a.m.
Given current fears over the Wuhan Novel Coronavirus, emergency services staff wearing hazmat suits were deployed to the scene to collect the body.
The woman is said to have been visiting Chiang Mai with friends from Guangzhou in Guangdong Province. She had last been seen alive drinking with those same friends the evening before. Of concern, the friends said that she had been suffering with flu-like symptoms.
The body was taken to Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital for an autopsy.
The friends traveling with the woman were screen for coronavirus symptoms at the scene with the resort asked to clean and sterilize all areas as a precaution.
