58 people arrested in Chiang Mai on coronavirus curfew day three

The number of people caught breaching the coronavirus curfew continued to rise last night, April 5-6 with 58 people arrested across Chiang Mai Province.

Mueang Chiang Mai Police topped the arrest count with nine arrests followed by Mae Ping Police catching eight. Phuping Ratchaniwet Police also arrested eight people followed by Chang Phueak Police and Hang Dong Police with four cases each. San Kamphaeng Police arrested three and Doi Saket two. San Sai Police arrested one person.

Outside the Chiang Mai metro area, Doi Lo Police arrested five and Mae Ai Police four. Mae Faek and Phrao Police recorded two arrests each with one arrest by Hot Police and Mae Wang Police.

Unlike those who start fires, authorities are cracking down hard on anyone caught breaching the curfew. Previous cases in Chiang Mai have seen a 1,500 baht fine and 15-day jail term. Upon release, those caught are also restricted to home detention for seven days and are put on a one year probation period.

One additional person was also arrested overnight on a firearms charge.
