A 65-year-old man has died from COVID-19 in Phayao, the first recorded death in the province and possibly also the north.
The unnamed man had been working as a cleaner at an entertainment area in Bangkok. He first became ill with symptoms March 11 before traveling home to Chun District in Phayao March 21.
He was admitted to Phayao Hospital on March 24 and was put on a ventilator. He never recovered.
Reports do note that he had been suffering from other medical conditions as well. The majority of COVID-19 deaths globally are said to be with people who were suffering from existing conditions.
As of yesterday April 10 there had been three confirmed cases of coronavirus in Phayao with 70 people being monitored who may have come into contact with a known carrier.
