Police arrested a 75-year-old American man on allegations of sexually assaulting a school girl in Pa Tan yesterday, Nov. 14.
The arrest, a joint operation between Chang Pheuak Police, the Crime Suppression Division and Mueang Chiang Mai Police took place yesterday evening outside of Kamthieng Plaza on Srimongkol Road as the man was waiting to catch transport to Mae Hong Son.
The man, only identified as “Mr. Bruce” by Sanook is alleged to have molested a female student under the age of 15 outside of an unnamed Chiang Mai school Aug. 7. He is accused of fondling her breasts and genitals.
The parents of the girl made a complaint to police with an arrested warrant, following an investigation, having been issued Sept 12. by the Chiang Mai Provincial Court.
“Mr. Bruce” is alleged to have since confessed to the crime. Police believe that it is unlikely to have been his first offense with previous victims possibly having been paid off so as to not file a formal complaint.
He’s been detained in custody at Chang Phueak Police Station on a charge of an indecent act involving a person under 15 using violence.
