Big Joke leads raid on Saraphi company accused of smuggling illegal workers

Surachate “Big Joke” Hakparn, the head of Thai Immigration, has led a raid on a company in Saraphi accused of smuggling illegal workers.

Led by Mr. Manoj Mowong, 37, the company allegedly smuggled workers across the Myanmar border in Mae Sai for placement in primarily laboring jobs in Chiang Mai.

Along with Mowong, three other Thai nationals were also arrested for their role in the smuggling ring – Mr. Udonchai Wongchak, 38 of Nong Hoi, Mrs. Piyaporn 47 from Mae San and Mr. Nipon Pitunta, 35 from Wiang Pa Pao District, Chiang Rai.

Big Joke claimed that those arrested were facilitating placement of illegal workers for a payment of 3,500 baht each.
