Chiang Mai & Chiang Rai are the best provinces in Thailand to view the Partial Solar Eclipse on 21st June 2020.
Head of Astronomy Academic Services, Mr Suparuek Maohanon said: “On Sunday 21st June a Partial Solar Eclipse can be seen across Thailand between 13:00 – 16:10 Thai time, with the largest shadow expected at approximately 14:49 hours”.
Although the Partial Solar Eclipse can be seen across Thailand, the Mae Sai district of Chiang Rai will see the sun obscured about 63% with Bangkok seeing only 16% of the sun obscured.
Mr Suparuek has warned those interested in watching the phenomenon to use eye protection as viewing with the naked eye can cause optic nerve damage and even blindness. Anyone planning to view the event through a telescope must ensure it is equipped with solar filters. Sunglasses are also not recommended. Specialised equipment that has the ability to filter light safely is a must.
