Cinemas in Chiang Mai have been warned that breaking social distancing rules will result in closure until further notice. This follows the closure of The Major Cineplex in Siam Paragon mall in Bangkok after they were ordered to close 3 days after reopening.
Major Cineplex has several venues in Chiang Mai including in Kad Suan Kaew and Central Festival.
The popular Bangkok theatre branch did not follow the guidelines that had been set to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus and allowed a crowd to form in front of the entrance on June the 5th.
Hundreds of fans had flocked to the theatre to see an event that was being hosted by two Thai teenage celebrities. Fans had been allowed to wait at the front of the cinema while no efforts were made to implement social distancing.
On its official Facebook page, Siam Paragon apologised and admitted that crowd management had been poor and was not in line with the guidelines that had been set up to ensure the safety of cinema-goers.
