A 69-year old woman has been arrested after she ran over an airport security guard and struck a number of other vehicles following a parking dispute at Chiang Mai International Airport yesterday Aug. 20.
The woman, named by Thai language media as Mrs. Patra Boon Chulo, was parked outside the domestic terminal at CNX at around 4:15 p.m. when she was asked to move along by an airport security guard as she had been parked in the spot for over an hour despite the area being set aside for drop-offs and pickups only.
Upset with being asked to move along, Mrs. Chulo instead decided to run the guard over with her Toyota Vigo pickup truck before subsequently crashing into a number of other vehicles.
The guard, named as Mr. Wachara Chaiwong was given initial treatment at the scene before being transferred to Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital where he was described as being in a serious but stable condition.
Relatives of Mrs. Chulo said that the woman was suffering dementia and that they were very upset about the injured man and hoped to visit the hospital to apologize to him.
It’s not clear from reports whether Mrs. Chulo will be charged over the incident or instead hospitalized given her apparent declining mental capabilities.
