Deputy Governor of Chiang Mai Province Mr. Komsan Suwanampa has offered rewards of up to 10,000 baht for catching fire starters as the province’s 2020 smog season goes from bad to worse.
The amount on offer includes members of the public providing “clues” (presumably evidence) of those starting fires that leads to an arrest.
The offer of reward money was made yesterday, March 26 before both the deputy governor and governor headed to Doi Suthep-Pui National Park to supervise firefighting efforts. As quickly as they can seemingly put some fires out, more are started as local light up ahead of hed thob mushroom season.
The move also came after Thai Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-ocha ordered Chiang Mai Governor Mr. Charoenrit Sanguansat to take command of efforts and to do more to tackle the numerous fires in the park that are contributing to Chiang Mai’s smog crisis.
