AT approximately 11 pm on 14th June 2020, police were called to the scene of a serious car accident on Chotana Road in front of Nakornping Hospital, Mae Rim District, Chiang Mai.
Officers arrived at the scene to find a brown Toyota pickup truck had crashed into the back of a white Nissan sedan that was parked outside a small convenience store. A 57-year-old woman was walking along the road at the time and was hit during the accident. She was rushed to Nakornping hospital but died from her injuries a short time later.
The pickup truck driver, Mr Sittichai (AKA Sa), 45 years old, tried to escape immediately after the crash but the accident was witnessed by a group on large motorcycles who gave chase. The group pressured the driver to pull over approximately 1 km from the scene, seized the keys to his vehicle and detained him until police arrived.
Officers arrested Mr Sittichai who they believed to be intoxicated and he was taken to the police station for questioning. Evidence was collected at the crime scene and the investigation continues.
