Drug addict arrested for murder of Mae Hong Son grandmother

A man has been arrested in Chai Prakan in relation to the murder of a grandmother in Mae Song Province following a dispute over money.

The man, Mr. Rakhind Wongkattan and a nephew of the deceased, is alleged to have asked Mrs. Nop Wachirawat Phattharaporn, 71, to borrow money at her home in Moo 1 Tambon Khun Yuam, Amphoe Khun Yuam Oct. 8.

Mr. Wongkattan asked to borrow 5,000 baht but Mrs. Phattharaporn only had 1,000 baht to give him, causing him to go into a rage, kicking and beating the elderly woman to the ground. She later died in hospital.

It was noted in reports that Mr. Wongkattan was a drug addict and may have been seeking the money to acquire more drugs.

He was found hiding by police in Chai Prakan in a house owned by his girlfriend.

Based on the warrant for his arrest he has been transported back to Mae Hong Son to appear before court on a murder charge.
