Drunk man arrested for damaging ballot paper in Lamphun

A drunk man has been arrested after damaging a ballot paper at a polling station in Lamphun yesterday, March 24.

The “incident” occurred in Ban Khi Lek, Moo 3 Ban Klang, Mueang Lamphun in the morning of the Thailand General Election.

The ballot paper vandal, Mr. Korakat Naart, 40 allegedly tore a ballot paper, a crime under Thai law.

After being arrested, Mr. Naart allegedly confessed, saying that he was so drunk he couldn’t see the numbers on the ballot paper and having received no assistance, decided to tear the ballot paper up instead.

He also added that he did not know it was against the law to tear up a ballot paper.

Staggeringly, the offense has a jail term of up to five years with someone found guilty also having their voting rights suspended for 10 years.
