The incident occurred on the tarmac at the airport on flight WE169 bound for Suvarnabhumi at around 3:40 p.m.
According to witnesses on the flight, the man, possibly in his early 20s, was not sitting in a window seat but is instead said to have come to from the back of the plane to the emergency exit door midway through the plane to open it.
Witnesses describe the man as drunk although some reports suggest he may have been autistic.
The man was arrested by airport security staff and escorted from the scene. After replacing the door and making various security checks, the aircraft ended up departing at 5 p.m.
According to One News, the man, who some have suggested may have been American (that’s not confirmed) , was detained for prosecution under aviation safety laws.
