Farmer murdered execution style in Chiang Rai cow paddock

A 53-year-old farmer was found murdered execution-style in a cow paddock in Chiang Rai yesterday, Nov. 14.

The body was found in a paddock in Moo 6 Rob Wiang, Mueang Chiang Rai by a neighbor who had come to investigate after earlier hearing gunshots.

The body of Mr. Aree Upananchai from Moo 4 Mae Kon was found dead with two gunshots to the head and a gunshot wound in his left calf. His pickup truck was found nearby along with one 9 mm shell casing and two. 380 cases at the scene.

The neighbor, Mr. Thongsuk Sunthorn, 52 said that Mr. Upananchai owned 10 rai in the area where he kept around 100 cows and would visit the land every day to feed his cows and maintain the land.

Mr. Upananchai’s sister, Mrs. Kam Pan Prom, 66 identified the body, telling police that her late brother was a “foul-mouthed person” who had “problems with people all over.”

Police believe two criminals confronted Mr. Upananchai at the cow paddock and have shot him following a disagreement.

CCTV footage from the area is being studied along with police investigating known associates and others Mr. Upananchai may have been in dispute with.
