A fire early this morning, April 17 has destroyed eight buildings including the famous Crossroads restaurant in Mueang Mae Hong Son.
The fire broke out at Crossroads, an American-style restaurant in a traditional two-story 100-year-old teak building at around 1:30 a.m. before spreading to neighboring buildings.
Emergency services were quick to the scene but the intensity of fire, particularly given many of the neighboring buildings were also teak, saw them take four hours to bring it under control.
One of the buildings that burned down was an office belonging to Mr. Panya Jinakham, Mae Hong Son MP. representing the Phalang Pracharat Party.
According to Thairath the fire is believed to be the biggest in Mae Hong Son for 40 years and caused at least 50 million baht in damage.
Cause of the fire is unknown but notably Mueang Mae Hong Son had a number of power outages prior to the fire. It’s suggested that the cause of the fire may have been a short circuit caused by power fluctuations.
A full police investigation into the fire has been launched.
