An out of control forest fire came close to burning down Wat Phra Borommathat Doi Koeng in Doi Tao yesterday, Jan. 26.
The fire started in Tha Dua, Doi Tao at around 8 p.m, racing up a hill until it threatened the locally famous wat.
Chiang Mai Provincial Administrative Organization was quick to deploy fire engines to the scene, managing to bring the fire under control by around 10 p.m.
Monks and students at the wat assisted in ferrying buckets of water in an attempt to put the fire out.
According to Mcot, the fire was started by locals to assist them in finding “forest products” in the area.
