Four arrested for illegal logging in Phrao

Four men have been arrested after they were found illegally logging trees in Phrao yesterday, March 29.

The men were found logging trees on Chiang Mai – Phrao Road (Highway 1001) between the 52 and 53-kilometer markers at 4:30 p.m.

A joint patrol by officials from Sri Lanna National Park and Royal Thai Army soldiers in the area to monitor for fires and those starting fires came across the men cutting trees at the side of the highway.

When asked for paperwork to show they had permission they cut trees they were unable to do so.

Along with arresting the four men, the patrol seized 17 pieces of wood measured at 2.67 cubic meters with a value of 26,700 baht; a Black Nissan Navara pickup truck; an Isuzu pickup truck; and various piece of equipment used in logging including chainsaws and axes.

The men were transported to the Long Knot Police Station and charged with illegal logging.
