Giant vacuum cleaner deployed to fix Chiang Mai smog

A giant vacuum cleaner has been delivered to Chiang Mai to help fix the smog crisis that has gripped the north for the last month.

The “Jet Ventury Scrubber” was lent to Chiang Mai from Khon Kaen and is described as an experimental PM 2.5 air scrubber.

According to a website that advertises the product, “the Jet Venturi Scrubber utilizes a liquid motivated ejector design to entrain contaminated gases, generally without the need for a blower.”

“The relatively high liquid-to-gas ratio, liquid atomization, and open internal design provide effective scrubbing of heavily contaminated gases with minimal maintenance and virtually unlimited turndown capabilities,” the sale pitch explains.

While looking like a jet aircraft engine, local authorities are highly enthusiastic about the machine that has been deployed at the Thapae Gate.

Mr. Komson Suwannapha, Deputy Governor of Chiang Mai Province said that the scrubber, nicknamed the “green giant” will “bring maximum benefits” to both locals and tourists alike.
