Chiang Mai Governor Mr. Charoenrit Sanguansat has ordered additional support to put out a fire that was started in Chiang Dao at the weekend, Feb. 8-9.
The governor made the order to target the fire, that had spread across Doi Luang – also known as Doi Chiang Dao in the boundaries of the Chiang Dao Wildlife Sanctuary on Sunday.
The fire was described as spreading in difficult to reach terrain with the KA-32 water-bombing helicopter currently based out of the Wing 41 Airbase at Chiang Mai International Airport sent to the area.
There are believed to have been eight separate fires started in the area prior to the support being called upon.
While the total number of fires in the entirety of Chiang Mai Province Sunday remained low, with 25 hot spots over a 24-hour period, notably those fires that are being started have been in forests which locals having started burning to encourage mushroom growing again.
Other forest fires reported Friday and Saturday in Doi Tao and San Sai were similarly in national parks and forest areas and are also believed to be mushroom-related.
