A Grab taxi driver has been arrested for stealing the purse of a shop owner in Think Park, Suthep.
Mr. Surat Jaen-im, 36 was caught on CCTV footage in the “Vimee Indy Sam” bag store (transliterated from Thai) grabbing a purse belong to Ms. Chadaporn Charoensilin on Feb. 22.
The purse contained around 8,000 baht in cash and various bank and ID cards.
Ms. Charoensilin shared footage of the brazen theft on social media in an effort to identify the thief with someone coming forward to identify Mr. Jaen-im as the perpetrator.
Mr. Jaen-im was arrested by police in a boarding house near Mae Jo University, San Sai yesterday, Feb. 26.
After questioning, Mr. Jaen-im confessed to the crime, saying that he was not making enough money providing services for Grab.
Police are investigating whether he may have been involved with other thefts across the Chiang Mai metropolitan area.
