Grandmother Arrested For Stealing Milk Powder

A 49-Year-old grandmother has been arrested for stealing milk power from several retail and convenience stores in downtown Chiang Mai.

The 49-year-old woman known as Nang was caught on CCTV and followed to her home in the San Phi Suea Sub-district of Chiang Mai by police officers at around 9 am on Tuesday morning.

When questioned by officers she explained that she had stolen the milk powder because she had three grandchildren at home, aged between 7 months and 3 years old, and no income from her business as a fish seller due to the COVID 19 crisis.

The officers from Chang Phueak Police Station began a search of her property and discovered 51 milk powder boxes hidden, with a retail value of over 25,000 baht.

The authorities seized the stolen goods and she was taken to Chang Phueak Police Station where she was detained and questioned.

A background check revealed the woman had an arrest history that included the theft of similar items, dating back well before the coronavirus outbreak.

She remains in police custody as officers continue their investigation.
