Happy Radio 98.5 FM, Chiang Mai’s only English language radio station has changed its name as part of a move into online streaming.
The change, part of an agreement between Creative Chili Co. Ltd. and Saucy Media Asia Co. Ltd. sees Happy Radio now known as Chili Pop. In addition, the station has also launched an online only radio station called Chili Dance, which as the name suggests will feature dance music.
Both stations will include local and national content. Happy, now Chili Pop, includes content from BBC World News as well as local Chiang Mai and Thailand news. The channel also syndicates the Asia Pop 40 show from Singapore.
The new streaming channels are only a start for the joint venture with three more dedicated online streaming channels planned to be launched next year.
Chili Pop and Chili Dance can be heard from the Chili website, Chili app or selected online radio streaming services.
The former 98.5 FM will not broadcast the new service with ownership of the license reverting to previous owners. The format of the channel, as broadcast on radio, is currently unknown.
