Homes inundated as Mae Klang breaks its banks in Chom Thong

Homes and businesses were inundated with floodwaters early this morning, Nov. 8 after heavy rain saw the Mae Klang River in Chom Thong break its banks.

As of just before dawn, the worst affected areas were Ban Mae Klang, Ban Lun and an area behind the Chom Thong District office. Roads were blocked in areas due to the flooding.

Users on social media share photos of floodwater flooding through homes and shop fronts. The extent of the damage is not currently known.

Floodwaters were reported to be receding as of around 8 a.m.

There was widespread rain across Chiang Mai Province overnight with surprisingly Mueang Chiang Mai receiving the most rain – 33.4 millimeters in the 24-hours to 7 a.m. this morning according to figures from the Thailand Meteorological Department. Chom Thong received 14.8 mm while Mae Chaem received 15.7 mm.
