Homes, wats and schools in Nan Province suffered from minor damage this morning, Nov. 21 after a 6.4 earthquake struck just across the border in Laos at 6:50 a.m.
Damage was primarily reported in Bo Kleua and Chaerm Phrakiat Districts, both being the closest to the epicenter of the earthquake.
In Ban Nam Chang, Moo 11 Khu Nan, Chalerm Phrakiat District a 100-year-old school was reported to have lost roof tiles with ceilings inside the building also damaged. A teachers cottage in the complex was also reported to have multiple cracks.
The Government Savings Bank Tha Wang Pha Branch is reported to have broken windows due to the earthquake.
Wat Phra That Khao Noi in Pha Sing, Mueang Nan is reported to have suffered from cracks and other minor damage including a partially collapsed ceiling. Given the age of the Wat – believed to be around 500 years old, the Fine Arts Department had been deployed to the site to assess the damage and arrange repairs.
Around seven to eight houses were reported to be suffering from minor damage, including cracks in Baan Nam Chan, Moo 11, Khun Nan in Chaloem Phrakiat.
Wat Phra That Chom Phrik in Ban Siao, Moo 6 Yom Ong, Phra That Taek District was also reported to have earthquake-related damage including damage to a Buddha statue.
In Chiang Mai there was no reports of damage with the metro area dams also being given the all clear by the agricultural department.
