Hysteria in CM as local returns from South Korea and goes partying

The hysteria around the spread of the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to increase in Chiang Mai after a local returned from South Korea and decided to go out and party versus staying at home in self-quarantine.

The unnamed local – a female in her 20s, traveled to South Korea Feb. 23 before returning to Chiang Mai this week.

Where this has become a massive story to the point that it’s being covered in national media versus simply local Chiang Mai outlets is that not only did the unnamed person return to Chiang Mai and not self-quarantine but then also boasted about hitting the town on her return. She posted multiple pictures on her Facebook profile of herself out and about – she is also apparently fond of Chang beer.

Although not legally enforceable, the Thai government recommends that all Thai citizens returning from at-risk countries self-quarantine for 14 days on their return.

The returnee visited the Funky Grill Chiang Mai on Huay Kaew Road, Suthep yesterday, March 4 causing the shop to go into a cleaning meltdown – see pictures below.

There’s zero evidence that the woman has coronavirus but likewise, welcome to 2020.
