Lampang schools were ordered closed yesterday, Jan. 27 as pollution levels in the lower north hit unsafe levels.
Lampang, unlike Chiang Mai and Lamphun has not imposed a fire ban with widespread fires in its southern parts along with neighboring Tak, Phrae and Uttaradit.
Large fires were reported in the Doi Phrabat Mountain Range through Phrabat in Mueang Lampang along with fires in Mae Moh District. Those were all closes to Lampang city itself, adding to smog levels in the area.
The Bangkok Post reports that the highest levels were recorded in Ban Dong, Mae Moh.
Of note, while some English-language reports have suggested that the burning is agricultural land, many of the fires are in national parks.
