Malaysian men arrested for running seminar without work permits in Nong Pa Khrang

10 Malaysian men have been arrested after they were found to be running a seminar without work permits in Nong Pa Khrang.

The exact date of the arrests is not clear with the Chiang Mai Immigration Bureau announcing the arrests at a press conference this morning, Oct. 22 at 10:30 a.m.

According to Immigration, the 10 men were running a bitcoin investment seminar for 100 Chinese nationals at the unnamed Nong Pa Khrang hotel when they were arrested.

All 10 had traveled into Thailand using a tourist visa and did not have an appropriate visa nor work permit. They’ve been charged under the section of the Immigration Act relating to an alien entering “the Kingdom to work in an urgent manner without notifying the registrar in writing,” which is a fancy way of saying that they didn’t have permission to work.
