Man arrested after robbing Brazilian tourist in Si Phum

A 32-year-old man has been arrested after he robbed a Brazilian tourist in a snatch and grab in Si Phum Sunday night, March 1.

The theft occurred on Singharat Road near Singharat Soi 1 at around 8:15 p.m.

The accused, Mr. Nueng Chaisri from Chang Moi is alleged to have grabbed a bag being carried by Miss Camila Bieler Da Silva Cunha, 22 as she walked down the road.

Police used CCTV footage to trace Mr. Chaisri from the scene to a dormitory on Santisuk Road, Chang Phueak where he was arrested early this morning, March 3.

Along with apparently not being bright enough to realize that driving a motorcycle registered in your own name in a city that would make George Orwell weep, Mr. Chaisri was also found in possession of the items he had allegedly stolen. Police recovered a black shoulder bag, an iPhone 11 and one pink wallet that contained baht, U.S. dollars and Brazilian Real.

For the bonus round, police also found that Mr. Chaisri was also in possession of yaba.

The accused was charged with using a vehicle to facilitate the offense of taking property, possession of stolen goods and drug possession.

Mr. Chaisri was held in custody pending a court hearing.
